Day 6: Port Arthur

Well today was certainly diverse or maybe I should just call interesting. Well it started out with the biggest breakfast I had had in a while. I ate bacon, sausages, 6 hash-browns, cups and cups of juice, fruit and mini cakes bleh! I didn't even feel sick. After that we headed off to a relative's house where I was greeted by a very loud Lily the dog. When we finally established where we were going ( Port Arthur) we headed off. First we stopped at the Pirate Bay then the tessellating rocks then the blowhole after that we visited the arch then we finally arrived at Port Arthur. After we paid the admission fee (which was reasonable) we had lunch. I ordered a chunky beef pie (what did you expect) which was delicious and chunky then we started a walking tour. It was very factual and the tour guide had a unique (good unique not bad) way of telling the facts that got me interested in the history of the convicts. After the walking tour we headed to the dock so that we could ride a boat in the bay and learn some more facts about the penal colony since we paid a bit extra we got to see the Isle of the Dead which was the colony cemetery and believed to be the final resting place for 1100 -1800 people, convicts to free settlers. Unsure exactly how many. It was quite interesting hearing how different people died, some were quite interesting others were gruesome. When we finished the Isle of Dead we hopped on the next boat and headed back the the mainland and did some more exploring we looked at the commandant's house (it was huge) the watch tower, police station, the flour mill and many other amazing buildings after that we hit the gift shop and bought an interesting book. The we hopped in the car and headed back to Hobart. We got some tea it was a 45 minute wait for pizza but it gave me time to write when it arrived it was quite yummy. When we got back again I fell straight asleep. Jacqueline out.
